I love this season! Celebrating the gift of Love coming to our world makes me wonder, Is my heart ready to receive Him? I think about the responses of those who were alive on the night of the Christmas story as I read it once again…
I read about the shepherds and the alarm that filled their hearts at the brightness of the heavens. They don’t understand the reason for this grand display. They are afraid. While they are terrified at the glory of God exhibited in such a magnificent way, an angel quiets their fears by revealing himself to them, saying, “Fear not….”
I ponder this and wonder if it could be possible that when our fear is the greatest, that’s when Christ is nearest. The inevitable happens – when God draws near to us and reveals who He really is, our fears are dispelled and His presence brings peace.
I long to remember this – our fears are quieted as God is revealed to us. It’s the revelation of His character that binds fear, that fetters its power over us. And when fear no longer reigns, that’s when joy springs forth.
“Fear not, for I am with you. Be not afraid, for I am your God. My presence will make you strong. I will help you and sustain you with My right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (paraphrased)
